The San Ysidro School District is committed to identifying, locating, and evaluating children with disabilities residing within District boundaries, in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and California Education Code.
Eligible students with disabilities are provided a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment at no cost to families. Special education and related services are designed to meet each student’s unique educational needs.
When a student is found eligible, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team—made up of parents/guardians and educational professionals—develops an IEP based on assessment results and the student’s strengths and needs. The IEP is a legally binding document that outlines goals, services, supports, and placement to ensure meaningful educational benefit and access to the general education curriculum.
Special Education Department Vision Statement The mission of the San Ysidro School District Special Education Department is to provide evidence-based specialized instruction in the Least Restrictive Environment, responsive to each student’s academic and social-emotional needs. We partner with families and the community to honor diversity and enrich student learning experiences (LRE).
