On behalf of myself and the SYMS staff, I would like to welcome you and your children to San Ysidro Middle School and the 2022-2023 Academic School Year. All of us are very eager to work to the best of our ability to provide a quality education for your child. We look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night and at other special events throughout the academic year.
The following are important items that I would like share with you at this time:
Student Class Schedules
Please be aware that student class schedules are available via ParentVue starting Thursday, July 21st and will also be passed out on your child’s orientation date. In addition, we will be available on the 1st day of school at 7:30am in front of the office to pass out schedules.
School Office Hours
The school office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. SYMS School telephone number is: (619) 428-5551. If you need to FAX information to our office the FAX number is (619) 690-2837
Arrival Time for Students
All students will enter the campus through the MCC entrance. Please make sure cell phones are turned off and inside the student's backpack.
The breakfast program will begin the first day of school. Students participating in this program should report to the cafeteria between 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. Children who do not participate in the breakfast program should report to school no earlier than 7:45 a.m. (except bus riders and morning program participants).
Start Time: 8:00 am
Regular Day (Mon-Th.) 2:19 pm Minimum Day (Fridays) 12:45 pm
Students living South of SYMS will depart from the school's back gate. All other students and students taking the bus will leave through the front gate. The bus will pick-up at the front of the school.
It is very important that you send your child to school every day. Students must learn the importance of being punctual as well as attending school daily. All children must be here between 7:30 -7:55 am. Students should get a drink and use the restroom before 7:55 a.m. Children who are late will not be considered for Perfect Attendance.
At the beginning of the school year all classroom assignments are tentative. Some changes may be necessary as we make adjustments on class sizes based upon enrollment and assessments of students. We hope to make any necessary changes during the first weeks of school.
Report of Student Attendance
The school office must be notified as to the reason for every child’s absence from school. When your child is absent, please call the office at 428-5551 or send a written excuse when your child returns to school with the following information:
Absence slips must be submitted to the main office by 7:45 a.m.
Please schedule your child’s medical or dental appointment after school hours. If this is not possible, please send your child to school before and after their appointment as time permits. Please come to the school office to check them out at the time of the appointment. Students who attend school daily, arrive on time, and do not leave early for any reason will qualify for Perfect Attendance Awards.
Uniform Guidelines and Dress Code
It is recommended for students to wear a white, light blue or navy blue shirt or blouse (short or long sleeves) and navy blue, khaki & black pants, shorts and skirts (no shorter than three inches above the knee and no longer than mid-knee). Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines and Dress Code for more detailed information.
A copy of the San Ysidro School District Positive Discipline Plan will be sent home. Please review the rules with your child (children). Students are expected to abide by the rules. Classes will be rewarded for outstanding behavior.
Free School Lunch Program at SYMS
You DON’T need to submit a new lunch application if your student is coming from a different school within our district. However, if you are new to our school district there is a link in the on-line New Student Registration that you should fill out.
We are pleased to inform you that the San Ysidro School District / Child Nutrition Department continues to be eligible for the Special Assistance Alternative "Provision 2" as part of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). This program enables your child or children to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch meal at NO COST every school day during the 2022-2023 school year.
We are excited to offer this program of free breakfast and lunch meals; furthermore, we encourage your child to participate. We know how important good nutrition is in the development of healthy minds and bodies. We are grateful to be able to offer this opportunity to all students in the San Ysidro School District.
Please complete the emergency card for each of your children. If there are any changes during the school year, please modify the emergency card in the office immediately. This ensures that we can contact you should an emergency arise. All numbers listed must be accurate and in service. Children will not be released to anyone not listed on the emergency card. Changes will not be accepted over the phone.
Using the computer is part of our school curriculum. However, students must have a permission slip on file in order to use the internet as a resource. San Ysidro School District Use of Internet Policy and Parent Permission Slip will be sent home with your child. (Part of the District Packet)
Student instructional time is the most valuable resource offered by the school. Therefore, in an effort to reduce the number of classroom interruptions, we ask that you please come to the school office if you have a need to speak to your child or have an emergency during the instructional day between 8:00 a.m. and 2:19 p.m. If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher, please do so before or after school hours or send an email.
As always, I am here to serve you and your children. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment to speak to me through Mrs. Maria Gomez, our School Administrative Assistant at 619-428-5551.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Manuel Bojórquez, SYMS Principal
